Released for free on John Romero's website 'for use with emulators' after the console version bombed and when it became obvious it wouldn't release any time soon officially - outside of a very limited run European release. You can download that particular ROM if you want.E.
Hashimoto made a doujin game for the Sharp X68000 (kind of the Japanese Amiga counterpart) that plays like a retro Castlevania, even though the level design isn't as polished. He remade it on the PC in 2006 as a commercial 10$ release (except there's no way to buy the damn thing now so don't feel bad getting it through alternate means) and released the old 1995 X68000 ROM for free (buster.lzh, open with 7zip to find the ROM - pretty compatible with current emulators). That ROM got lost in a very recent website overhaul, alongside most of the other stuff on his website from 2006 to 2015 (including his freeware, and more known games, like Akuji the Demon, Guardian of Paradise, King, Hydra Castle Adventure which also has a 3DS fan-port and is being considered by Nicalis apparently for a commercial release), but if you can track it down, you can download it too (if you still can't find it online, I can give you the copy I have). And of course, beta ROM releases endorsed by the original developers. Like one unfinished Western-made RPG for the GBC, and a recently released NES port of a platformer starring an egg.Another link for homebrew retro ROMs:.
