I work for a company which produces such software since the 2006, so my answer may be a bit biased. I will try to be objective as much as possible. There are several options on this market:. Expensive solutions. These are Maya, Cinema 4D, Chief Architect or similar.
The minus of these programs is that you will need to pay up to several thousands for the main packages. They are not available in the Mac App Store and some of them do not provide you with the instant 3D walkthrough. You will need to set the position and path of camera first, then wait for some time until it all renders (if you choose the best quality, of course). The output will be excellent, no doubt about that. The set of tools is enormous.
These are professional programs, and it takes time to learn how to use it. Middle class. Mainly Punch and Live Home 3D Pro.
Both are available in the Mac App Store and as a direct purchase. Relatively not expensive. Punch Home Design Studio is about 200$ (there are also cheaper versions) and Live Home 3D Pro goes for 70$. Good 2D and 3D tools, elevation view, great output and export options (including video 360 and panoramas 360 when it comes to Live Home 3D). You won’t achieve photorealistic effects using these programs though.
The image will look close to the real one, but some details will reveal it is the virtual world, not a photo. This is the price you need to pay for the instant rendering. Not a problem if you have access to some nice 3rd party renders like Lumen RT or on-line Onerender service. A bunch of programs with the price range from $1.99 to $49.99. All of them offer 2D and 3D view of the design. The set of available tools and quality output varies from one program to another. To name a few: Sweet Home 3D, Home Design 3D, Live Home 3D, MyFourWalls and cheaper versions of Punch.
